View AllVascular surgery registrar
Nottinghamshire
As per salary scale
I am recruiting for a Vascular surgeon to work as a Trust grade / registrar or above for a university hospital in the midlands. The hospital is a big major trauma centre & tertiary referral centre.
We provide a range of national and internationally renowned specialist services, and we are at the forefront of new surgical procedures and research programmes.
As a teaching hospital, we are instrumental in the education and training of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. We are proud of our strong relationships with universities across the Midlands.
This is an exciting opportunity to get excellent experience in Vascular Surgery with exposure to emergency and elective services. You will work closely with consultants, other junior doctors and multi-disciplinary teams.
The Vascular department is the regional vascular tertiary referral unit. In addition to being a hub for complex elective vascular (including endovascular) referrals, we also deal with a substantial load of the regional vascular emergencies.
We are engaged in performing complex vascular surgery including open and endovascular operations and have close links with Interventional Radiology colleagues. We was the first Trust in the UK to perform endovascular surgery and continues to be a driver for this type of surgery. There are weekly MDTs where patients are discussed with various colleagues from around the Trust.
There are ample opportunities for work based assessments from the supervising consultants. You will also be allocated a Clinical Supervisor.
The post holder will contribute to the 1:8 on-call rota and should therefore have completed core surgical training (or equivalent), have full MRCS, ALS and have experience working within the NHS.
Consultant Interventional Consultant
Greater London
£105,504 - £139,882
We are looking for a Locum Consultant Radiologist with experience in all aspects of Interventional Radiology, to support the vascular and non vascular interventional work.
Key tasks:
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Hospital
To deliver a high-quality imaging service with a focus on Interventional Radiology
To share, with colleagues in the Imaging Department, the management of all patients referred to the Trust
To share in the general radiology work of the department including currently a 1 in 12 on call rota
To support radiographers and sonographer staff in the department and also be involved in the teaching and training of specialist registrars grade, junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students
To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD)
We are looking for a dynamic interventional radiologist with a progressive attitude, to support the local GI, GU and hepatobiliary services and the vascular interventional radiology services, as part of the Vascular Unit.
This is a full-time post, but those wishing to work less-than full time will also be considered equally.
The Trust is a dynamic, forward-facing vascular centre which is the hub of the regional vascular unit, serving a population of over 900,000. The hub will move to in 2024 with development of two hybrid theatres there, while the non-vascular interventional service continues at two hospitals, there will be a vascular ‘spoke’ centre.
The two hybrid theatres will be shared by all the members of the vascular team and interventional radiologists for a full range of open, hybrid and endovascular procedures, and complex non-vascular interventional procedures, with appropriate anaesthetic support as required and dedicated team of nursing and radiographer staff.
The vascular unit has a consistently strong track record, evidenced by NVR data. It has 7 Consultant Vascular Surgeons, 1 Vascular Interventional Radiologist, 1 Associate Specialist, 2 vascular nurses, 1 vascular technician and between 4-5 junior doctors. There are excellent relations between the surgeons and IRs, with strong mutual support and combined working. Excellent non-invasive vascular imaging in the form of duplex, MR and CT, supports the service. There is an established EVAR programme that incorporates TEVAR, branched- and Ch-EVAR, CERAB for occlusive disease, percutaneous EVARs and we are the largest UK centre for Endoanchor usage. There is a strong R&D ethos, with involvement in the LUCY, ETTAA and BASIL-3 trials, supported by a dedicated research unit. We run the Ovation EVAR and Viabahn Advanced Femoro-popliteal Workshops annually. The unit publishes and presents regularly in peer-reviewed journals and national and international conferences. Aortic endovascular work is primarily performed by the surgeons, but there may be scope for the successful candidate to get involved in these if interested.
A deep venous service is also in the process of being set up, led by one of the vascular surgeons, supported by the recent acquisition of IVUS. An experience in deep venous interventions will therefore be welcome.
There is a growing uterine fibroid embolization practice, and scope to expand services in future, like line placement services, RIG, and even some onco-intervention, dependant on the candidate’s skills, interests and enthusiasm.
There will be a need to provide the full range the non-vascular interventional procedures including biopsies, drainages, nephrostomies, and ureteric stents. There is a hepatobiliary and ERCP service that needs support through biliary drainages and stents, which the appointee will be expected to be involved in. The appointee will also participate and contribute actively to the weekly vascular MDT as well as other MDTs as required. They will work closely with the vascular surgeons, gastroenterologists and other clinical teams as required, for individual case planning, clinical consultations, and may directly see patients for consultation if required. They will also support other Radiology colleagues, sonographers and radiographers in the interpretation and reporting of vascular imaging.
Non-vascular Intervention, including urological and hepatobiliary procedures, will continue to be delivered after the relocation of the vascular Hub. It is envisaged that the appointee will have 1 whole day IR list at the vascular hub in the hybrid theatre and up to 1.5 days of non-vascular IR lists after this reorganisation of services.
The lists will be delivered within Theatre 8 or CT as applicable, depending on the procedures. Procedures will be supported by a team of nurses and dedicated radiographers within the Interventional Theatre.
Recovery beds for patients are available on the Day-case Ward, Day Treatment Unit or Endoscopy suite dependant on the procedure types.
Procedures are performed to a high level of safety, using up-to-date equipment ordered through a robust procurement process and which can be tailored to the experiences and needs of the successful candidate.
IR safety checklists are used throughout and consultants are encouraged to maintain log-books and enter data into national and international databases and participate in relevant Registries and research.
The applicant will also be expected to contribute to some of the general reporting workload and may also support MDTs relevant to the interventional procedures, particularly Urology, Upper and/or lower GI, with sufficient time for MDT preparation.
We will welcome an applicant who is keen to work collaboratively and contribute positively to delivering a high-quality service and development of new services will be encouraged and supported.
