About the Role
I'm currently working with a Trust based in Nottinghamshire that is looking for a Consultant Anaesthetist is required to support the Anaesthesia Department at a prestigious NHS Trust. The role comprises of 10 PA's, with 8.5 PA dedicated to direct clinical care and 1.5 PA for supporting professional activities. This is a NHS fixed term contract, The appointed Consultant will be required to be on-call and live within a reasonable distance of the Trust to attend within thirty minutes when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality clinical care for a wide variety of surgical, gynaecological, orthopaedic, and obstetric cases.
- Work alongside fellow consultants, critical care teams, theatre staff, divisional managers, and nursing colleagues to maintain the highest standards of care.
- Deliver teaching and training to junior staff, medical students, and multidisciplinary team members.
- Contribute to clinical governance, service development, and departmental management.
- Ensure active participation in continuing medical education (CME) and stay updated with advancements in anaesthesia practice.
- Provide consultant anaesthetic cover for elective theatre sessions at the Trust’s main hospital and at the Newark hospital.
Department Overview:
The successful candidates will be welcomed into a supportive, well-established anaesthesia department, consisting of 25 substantive consultants and up to 20 Specialist/SAS/Clinical Fellow grade anaesthetists. The department works closely with the East Midlands School of Anaesthesia and actively participates in the education of medical trainees. The Trust is also working towards achieving national accreditation with The Royal College of Anaesthetists, with the goal of completing this process within the next two years.
Key Specialities and Services:
- Elective Surgery: The Trust offers a full range of elective surgeries, including general surgery, orthopaedics, trauma, gynaecology, urology, ENT, maxillofacial, breast surgery, and ophthalmology.
- Obstetric Anaesthesia: The Trust's obstetric unit handles around 3,600 deliveries per year. The anaesthesia team plays a key role in providing consultant-led care for the unit, including high-risk antenatal anaesthetic assessments.
- Critical Care: The Critical Care Unit is well-equipped with 13 bed spaces, providing Level 3 and Level 2 care. The unit is currently expanding as part of an ambitious redevelopment project.
- Acute and Chronic Pain Services: The department offers an excellent pain management service, including pre-operative assessments, acute pain rounds, and chronic pain management.
On-Call and Emergency Services:
Consultants participate in a well-structured on-call rota, including coverage for theatres, obstetrics, critical care, and paediatric resuscitation. The department is equipped with a robust team of anaesthetists and other medical professionals to provide comprehensive support across all emergency and elective services.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
- Extensive experience in anaesthetics, including general anaesthesia and obstetric anaesthesia.
- Training in critical care and pain management is desirable.
- A commitment to teaching, training, and continuing professional development.
- Active participation in clinical governance and service development initiatives.
